picchi rscCongratulations to our Ph.D. student Alberto Picchi for his scientific publication entitled "Assessing the performance of sustainable luminescent solar concentrators based on chemically recycled poly(methyl methacrylate)" in RSC Applied Polymers. The study examines the viability of utilizing chemically recycled poly(methyl methacrylate) (r-PMMA) in luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs).

By utilizing regenerated methyl methacrylate (r-MMA) from chemical recycling, comparable LSC performance to virgin PMMA is achieved, while the Global Warming Potential is reduced by 75%. However, impurities in r-MMA affect device longevity, underscoring the necessity for additional monomer purification to fully capitalize on sustainability advantages without compromising durability.
