Congratulations to our Ph.D. students Andrea Bonini, Federico Vivaldi and Noemi Poma for their scientific publication entitled “A graphenic biosensor for real-time monitoring of urea during dialysis”.
This work proposed a new disposable urea biosensor based on urease immobilized on reduced graphene oxide, for the real-time monitoring of the urea concentration for patients that need dialysis or transplantation. The sensor performances were tested in a real scenario in collaboration with the Nephrology Unit of Azienda Ospedaliera-Universitaria Pisana (Pisa, Italy). The urea concentration was assessed on plasma samples of dialyzed patients using a potentiometric measurement.
The new sensor showed good performances when compared with standard clinical laboratory analyses.
