Title:
New glycoconjugation synthetic approaches for therapeutic and diagnostic applications

Abstract:
Glycoconjugation is currently a very investigated and applied procedure in the field of synthetic chemistry and clinical research and it has a key role in carbohydrate-based drugs and vaccines design. In the chemotherapy field it leads to molecules with therapeutic or diagnostic action mostly directed towards cancer cells, in consideration of an enhanced selectivity.
The aim of project is to merge metal complexes with a documented anticancer activity (ruthenium, osmium, iron and gold structures) with molecules such as glucose, glucose mimics or fructose, that can be recognized by GLUT’s and exploit their pathway. Moreover, in this project glycoconjugated-fluorescent probes will be developed as tumors diagnostic agents. These systems could allow to detect the presence of cancer cells, exploiting the fluorescence, in the visible or near IR region, of fluorophores such as coumarins.
