Projects:
I am currently enrolled as a post-doc researcher in the project Materiali di nuova generazione per il restauro di beni culturali: nuovo approccio alla fruizione di AGM for CuHe: Advanced Green Materials for Cultural Heritage.
My research involves the use of calorimetric techniques for the evaluation of several matrices, as protein-polymer conjugates with biomedical applications, new generation materials for cultural heritages, composite materials made by synthetic or natural polymers and animal extracted fibers, deep-eutectic solvents. We investigate also the interaction among new Pt anticancer complexes and proteins.
In a previous moment, during my PhD I have worked in collaboration with Pr. Frederik Wurm (MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology Universiteit Twente, Enschede, NL) on the critical design, synthesis, characterization and biochemical evaluation of novel protein-polymer conjugates, based on poly(phosphoester)s, a promising class of polymer, potential alternative for poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) (the most common polymer used in the bioconjugation field). A wide set of conjugates was synthesized, their activity and thermal stability was evaluated using Nano-Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Nano-Differential Scanning Fluorimetry and circular dichroism. The biodegradability and biocompatibility of the samples in simulated human fluids was tested. In addition, a biophysical evaluation of the conjugates dynamics in the dry form was performed by neutron scattering spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry.
