Title of the PhD project:
Field-effect systems and 2D nanomaterials for biological applications

Abstract of the PhD project:
Melanoma incidence is rapidly growing and, for late diagnosis, it leads to high mortality. Recent data show that an early melanoma diagnosis allows for a 98% survival rate: therefore, there is an urgent need of detecting predictive biomarkers of melanoma to improve patients’ survival rate and to avoid the growth of metastases. This research project aims at developing a field effect transistor based on transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers to capture and detect melanoma tumor cells in blood samples with high sensibility. The desired selectivity will be conveyed by the functionalization with antibodies. The system will also be designed for low volume of blood samples, reagents consumption and manufacturing cost.
