Congratulations to our Ph.D. students Andrea Bonini, Noemi Poma and Federico Vivaldi from the Chemistry Lab for Analytical Technologies and Sensors (CATS), for their recent review entitled "Advances in biosensing: The CRISPR/Cas system as a new powerful tool for the detection of nucleic acids". This year, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded for the use of the CRISPR/Cas system in molecular biology. Recently, the coupling of the CRISPR/Cas system with isothermal amplification methods is fostering the development of innovative optical and electrochemical Point of Care (POC) devices and seems to offer unprecedented possibilities.
New review just published. Main-chain water-soluble polyphosphoesters: Multi-functional polymers as degradable PEG-alternatives for biomedical applications.
Polyphosphoesters (PPEs) are a class of (bio)degradable polymers with high chemical versatility and functionality, currently discussed as a potential alternative to poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG). Several PPE candidates have proven their biocompatibility in vitro in terms of cytocompatibility, “stealth effect”, degradability and some promising in vivo results.
Congratulations to Nicola Di Fidio, Ph.D. student of our Doctoral School in Chemistry and Materials Science, and third-place winner of the national contest for young innovators "Falling Walls Lab Italy 2020", organized by the University of Milan-Bicocca. The jury, composed of experts from the academic, research and business world, awarded Nicola's research project which aims to create an innovative biorefinery model for the conversion of agro-industrial wastes into biofuels and bioproducts through Green Chemistry approaches, in the perspective of the new model of circular economy.
Congratulations to our Ph.D. student Andrea Cesari for his scientific publication entitled “Interaction of natural flavonoid eriocitrin with β-cyclodextrin and hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin: an NMR and molecular dynamics investigation” in “New Journal of Chemistry”. Many studies have focused on improving water solubility, stability and shelf-life of natural flavonoid. To overcome this problems, β-cyclodextrin and its derivatives are interesting candidates.
